Haze in Singapore

Yesterday, for our learning time, we learnt about the haze in Singapore.  Below is a news article, brought to you by Jacob & Joshua.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right now in Singapore, there is a lot of haze.  This started about 5 days ago.  We have seen barely any people walking on the streets because the haze is at the unhealthy level.  The haze is measured by the Pollutant Standard Index (PSI).  Anything over 101 to 200 is measured unhealthy.  Yesterday the PSI was 108 and today it is 153!

This picture was taken yesterday from our balcony.  Normally, the skies are clear and you are able to see Marina Bay Sands, which has the infinity pool on top of it.

This is our view right now.

In Indonesia, they are doing slash and burn which means they are burning down all the fields to get the soil nice and healthy.  When the smoke went into the air, the winds started to blow it and it went into Singapore.  This happens every June and October but this has been the worse since 1997.

Jacob & Joshua...signing out.

UPDATE #1

Since writing this news article the, PSI has rose to 299!  Anything between 200-299 is considered Very Unhealthy and anything above 300 is Hazardous.  They are handing out face masks at our building for us to use if we decide to go outside.  We won't be leaving with the conditions like this!

UPDATE #2

At 1pm today, the PSI rose to 371!  As we were getting a little stir crazy, we decided to walk across the street to the Starbucks for a drink and to play Uno and Scrabble.  But don't worry, we donned masks to protect ourselves.  :)

And we ended the afternoon with a movie in my bed :)
