Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

To celebrate Canada, we created posters about what we love about Canada and went on a field trip to see the Merlion, an icon of Singapore.

Jacob's list of what he loves includes: Hockey, Three Sisters, Grandma & Grandpa, Stampede, Aidan & Liam, Nana & Papa, Anna, My Whole Family, Our Home, Oilers, Snowball Fights and Snow
Dustin...one of my items is The Bear & Whit...specifically the bartenders!
Joshua's list included: My Family & Friends, Hockey, NHL, Snowmen, and the Army (not sure why but he drew soldiers fighting...odd...very odd)
We visited the Merlion, which is located across the Singapore River from the Marina Bay Sands.    The Merlion stands 8.6 meters high and has a lion's head and a fish's body.

As the most famous image of Singapore, the Merlion is an imaginary creature that represents Singapore's origins as a fishing village.  "Mer" refers to the sea and lion translates as "singa" in Sanskrit, while the fish tail symbolizes the old city of Temasek.

Thanks for the shirts, Grandma!  My Mom has made rules about how often we can wear these as we try to wear them everyday (literally!)

The lotus looking building in the middle is a museum and the ferris wheel structure is called the Singapore Flyer.

We ended the day with a Canadian meal.  It took us awhile to decide which meal represents Canada.  We settled on the ingredient, Maple Syrup, so pancakes it was!

For dessert, I found some cherries, and even though they weren't from BC (which you can get at a ridiculous price), they were just as delicious!
